Greg Kucera Gallery, Seattle
January 03 - February 16, 2019

Greg Kucera Gallery is pleased to announce our second one-person exhibition by Seattle artist, Joe Rudko. A photographer by training, the artist now primarily works with found photographs. The photographs are cut, ripped, folded, and collaged together to make a whole image that is greater than the sum of its more commonplace parts. Other snapshots are combined with hand-drawn elements creating an alternate narrative. The source photographs all predate the digital era, before the mid-1990s. Some of the works are created from color snapshot photographs; others use studio quality black and white glossies.

“The works in this show reflect an ongoing investigation into the self, by way of the anonymous snapshots of others. These are forgotten, abandoned and lost images, destined for the recycling center. I’ve snatched them up, cut them open, and examined my reactions to them. I often find that we have things in common, and that the world we live in, with all its complications, is the same as it ever was.”
